Team 2023/2024

We proudly present the Team for the 31st Willem C. Vis Moot Court.

The team of the Ruhr-University Bochum for the 31st Willem C. Vis Moot Court.

This year's Team consists of our four students: Lennard Hülsdau, Alexandra Köhler, Dominik Peters and Emma Schwitzer. They will represent the Ruhr-University in the Vis Moot starting in October. Linnea Djurberg and Felix Kindler will take over the coaching of the Team this year.

Emma Schwitzer

Emma Schwitzer (19) studies law in her 3rd semester at Ruhr-University Bochum.

Growing up right next to the Danish border, she always had a strong interest in different cultures and their impact on societies. This interest grew as she decided to attend a boarding school in Denmark for six months. During this time, she had the opportunity to attend Cambridge clases.

After participating in the course „International Dimension of Law“, she realized her deeper interest in the international aspects of law. She is determined to focus her later studies on international law and to pursue a career in this field.

Therefore, she sees the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as the perfect opportunity to connect in an international network, as well as to improve legal English and rhetorical skills.

Dominik Peters

Dominik Peters (23) studies law in his 10th semester at Ruhr-University Bochum.

Due to his profound passion for debating law and adopting the perspective of a lawyer, he participated in the Hans Soldan Moot Court earlier in his studies. Having made first moot court experiences on a national level, he felt compelled to finally partake in an international moot court.

During his studies he developed a great interest in civil law, particularly in instances where conflicts extend beyond national boundaries, giving rise to the relevance of international law. In our increasingly globalized world, the significance of international legal domains has never been more pronounced. With this in mind, he is planning on writing a dissertation and pursuing a career in such a field of law.

Dominik plans to expand his knowledge by participating in the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. He is hoping to further improve his rhetoric and presentation skills and is looking forward to working in a team full of motivated law students.

Alexandra Köhler

Alexandra Köhler (26) studies law in her 11th semester at Ruhr-University Bochum.

She has always been drawn to the English language and therefore appreciated the opportunity to spend a year in New York and to ameliorate her language skills.

During her studies Alexandra has engaged in global issues, which is why she takes part in the Anglo-American Law & Language Certificate program. Especially the class „Introduction to International Dispute Settlement“ aroused her interest in arbitration as a way to solve international conflicts.

To expand her knowledge in that field, she decided to apply for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. She believes it is important to think globally and, thus, appreciates the opportunity to gain practical insight into international arbitration.

By participating, Alexandra intends to improve her rhetorical skills and to get in contact with people who are as engaged in international law as she is. She is looking forward to learning from experienced practitioners and working with an amazing team.

Lennard Hülsdau

Lennard Hülsdau (23) studies law in his 5th semester at Ruhr-University Bochum.

Before starting his law studies, he successfully completed the program "International Business Law and Business Management“ (LL.B.). His particular interest laid in analyzing international legal and economic issues.

A formative role in Lennard’s decision to pursue a degree in law after his bachelor’s studies was the course "International Trade Law“, which focused significantly on the basics of the CISG and arbitration. As a result, he developed a desire to integrate these legal topics into his future professional life. To fulfill this desire and deepen his theoretical knowledge, Lennard decided to apply for the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

Through participation, he also hopes to gain practical experience in the field of international commercial law and further enhance his existing knowledge of legal English. He looks forward to working in a highly motivated team and connecting with other like-minded students.

Linnea Djurberg & Felix Kindler

Linnea Djurberg and Felix Kindler will coach the Team of the Ruhr-University Bochum. Both are looking forward to supporting the team with their experiences. Linnea participated in the 27th Vis Moot and has just successfully completed the first state exam. In her studies she focussed on commercial law and European law. Felix is a PhD student. He participated as a team member in the 26th Vis Moot and coached the team of the University of Osnabrück in the 27th Vis Moot.
